Watch Ep 302's Secret Clue on Video
Welcome back to the Lost Secret Clue, where we dig deeper to find the clues and secrets you might’ve missed to fuel your theories! This week’s episode, 'The Glass Ballerina', held a mammoth load of very subtle clues – some so subtle, there’s a good chance you may have missed them completely! We saw a Dharma logo re-emerge, learnt Ben’s full name, discovered a connection between the mysterious Alex and Karl, heard of how the Others may be getting about unnoticed and received a big clue as to who the father of Sun’s baby really is. Oh – and Ben proved to both Jack and the audience, not only is the island real, but all these events are actually happening in our world...
After tonight’s episode, we can’t help seeing Sun in a very different light. After the first flashback, where she smashed the glass ballerina, it was blatantly obvious that Sun will lie through her teeth to save herself, not matter the cost to anyone around. This point was hammered home when we saw her in bed with her bald lover, Jae Lee. Knowing that Jin is infertile and that it is highly unlikely that she could’ve fallen pregnant, and then realised it, since Jin’s return from the raft misadventure, I think the father stands revealed.
The question remains, though – did Jin ever learn of the affair? Sun’s father, the notorious Mr Paik, never mentioned a word of the reasoning behind "the message" to Jin, but Jin displayed his cryptically intuitive nature twice. On the island, he dropped the bombshell that his English is far better than anyone realises – Jin has wised up to Sun’s ways, and he’s had enough. More interesting was when Jin was beating Jae Lee and asked, "Do you know who I am?" Was he referring to his status as one of Mr Paik’s enforcers – or had Jin worked out that Jae Lee was his wife’s lover?
We learnt some very interesting things about the Others this week, helping us to paint a better picture of what it is they want with our Losties. The most minor was the re-emergence of a Dharma logo – the logo on Juliet’s water flask was the same as the one seen on the shark last season, as well as on the flask Ethan offered to Claire at the medical hatch when she had been kidnapped. As insignificant as this seems, it confirms the fact that all these projects are, or were at some time, from the same source.
When Colleen, the blonde woman shot by Sun, came to Benry (Ben/Henry Gale) with news of the sailboat, he seemed stunned for a moment. As per usual, he quickly came up with a solution – dispatch a group and retrieve the boat. While Colleen relayed this news to Danny Pickett, the man in charge of the construction yard and probably her partner, she made mention of a “galaga”. While we don’t know yet exactly what that is but, considering the Others later appeared silently and dry on the sailboat, is it such a stretch to imagine they have a submarine? It also seemed strange that the Others were not aware of the sailboat, considering how they seem to know everything else going on the island. If they weren’t aware of the sailboat, does this mean they were never aware of Desmond being on the island? If this is the case, our favourite Scot has become the ultimate wildcard...
Sawyer and Kate’s time in the digging pits also offered us several clues. Though we never received a straight answer what the work there was for, it definitely seemed to be an organised dig with purpose. After seeing the giant four toed foot, could the Others possibly be manning an archaeological dig? The young woman we believe to be Rousseau’s daughter also made an appearance, revealing herself to be the girlfriend of Karl, the Other who attempted to escape last week. Is she an Other too, or does she live rogue like her mother? Finally, Sawyer created an opportunity to gauge the fighting ability of the Others, and found them lacking...
As seems to have been the case of late, several of the biggest clues came through Benry – or should I say, Mr Benjamin Linus, resident of Lost Island since birth. Ben certainly seemed in mood to share and open up, offering Jack hope of escape in return for his word that the doctor would help him with a favour when requested, and all Jack would need is to change his "...perspective".
Benry is one creepy guy and seems to love to watch – he has a Pearl station all of his own, where he monitors the goings-on in and around the Hydra station. The most amazing clue, though, can only be found by deeply studying what Ben was observing, and here is where things get crazy… In the top left screen, we see the very same view that Sayid has while observing the sailboat from the jungle. More amazingly is the view on the top right screen – it is the exact spot in the jungle where Walt appeared to Shannon and Sayid, right before she was shot by Ana-Lucia. No-one has spotted cameras hidden in the jungle – is it just co-incidence that Sayid is present at both these events, seeing things through the same vision displayed on Ben's screens, or could there be something far more sinister at foot?
The final two minutes were jaw-dropping, especially for we hardcore theorists. Last week’s shot of the plane coming apart assured us everything was happening for real – Benry’s TV and date-dropping confirmed it. Here is the list on dates and events mentioned:
Christopher Reeve's death – Oct 10th, 2004
Boston Red Sox win the World Series – Oct 27th, 2004.
Bush re-elected – Nov 2nd, 2004
These are all major world events and confirm that not only is the island real, but life has continued on without them. Benry gives the current date – Nov 29th, 2004. Considering that all events listed did occur in reality, do the Losties need to be fearful of the impending destruction a Pacific Island will face come the 26th of December at the hands of the Sumatra-Andaman earthquake – better known as the Indian Ocean tsunami, the deadliest in history?
