Episodes 22 + 23 - "Through The Looking Glass" Secret Clue

Welcome back to the Lost Secret Clue, where we dig deeper to find the clues and secrets you might've missed to fuel your theories! This week's episode, 'Through the Looking Glass', was the final new episode we'll enjoy this year, and what an earth-shattering collection of major events it turned out to be. Fifteen deaths, a reunion, a connection with a long-lost love, the return of Locke and a final scene that changes everything...

There were several clues hidden within Jack's flashback scenes, which were revealed in the final scene to actually be taking place after he and Kate are off the island. The funeral home was named Hoffs Drawlar, an anagram for Flash Forward. Jack's phone is a Motorola KRZR K1m phone, released in the US in late 06 and the song playing when Jack is driving to the funeral is Nirvana's "Scentless Apprentice" - Nirvana's singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide on 5th April, 1994. The newspaper clipping is from the LA Times April 5th, 2007, folded on page B4, and reads...

Los Angeles
Man Found Dead in Downtown Loft

"The body of Jo...[unreadable]...[a]ntham of
New York was discovered shortly after 4
a.m. in the...[unreadable]...of Grand
Avenue. Ted [lastname], [a door]man at The
Tower...[unreadable]...heard loud
noises...[unreadable]...antham's loft.
[unreadable]... [sa]fety, he co[nfessed]
[unreadable]...discovered the
[unreadable]...a beam in the
[unreadable]...[ac]cordin[g]...[unreadable]..."

The flash-forward also left us with a ton of questions to agonise over. Why was Jack asking to have his father brought downstairs, when we not only believe Christian to be dead but also to have been stripped of his medical licence? How did Jack become hooked on Oxycodone, commonly referred to as Hillbilly Heroin, a massively addictive drug that is particularly difficult to get prescribed. Who is the father of Sarah's baby? Who did Kate have to rush back home too? And the question sure to set theories alight for months to come - who is in the casket?

Back on the island, when he and Alex set out to intercept the Losties, Ben sent everyone who didn't go with the beach attack squad to go with Richard "to the temple", and anyone who didn't is now dead... what does this mean for the Others? What is the temple? Is it linked with the four toed statue and the ruins? Will Ben ever be able to recover control of them, now that his lies are becoming far more apparent? Mikhail believed Bonnie and Greta, the Looking Stations workers, were on assignment in Canada, the same place Ethan claimed to be from. Finally, did we miss the biggest clue this season in Mikhail's cat? The man has a seemingly endless supply of lives...

It definitely looks like Locke is now the Island's chosen son, as just as Locke was about to commit suicide, the whispers began and Walt appeared to tell him to get back on with his mission. Of course, we know this wasn't really Walt...or was it? Was this a form the smoke monster took to talk to him, or has Walt gained stronger control over his ability to appear elsewhere and intervened, somehow knowing Locke was in trouble?

Charlie's belief in his destiny was certainly fulfilled when it was revealed that the code in the Looking Glass was programmed by a musician to be the touch-tone melody of the Beach Boys' "Good Vibration". If it were any other person in his position, the mission would have been a complete failure. The scene also saw the very first contact Desmond and Penny had with each other in 3 and 1/4 years, as they definitely heard each other calling to one another... right before Mikhail blew the wall up and Charlie valiantly locked Desmond out to fulfil the prophecy. What will happen now that only Desmond knows Naomi's people are not who they claim to be?

The death tally this episode was staggering:

Sayid: Four (3 in the explosion, 1 neck-snapping with legs)
Mikhail: Three (Bonnie, Greta and Charlie)
Bernard: Two (Explosion)
Jin: Two (Shot them after his was unable to hit the dynamite)
Hurley: One (Ran over Ryan Price)
Sawyer: One (Shot Tom in the chest in cold blood for taking Walt)
Desmond: One (Mikhail, with a spear dart through the heart)
Locke: One (Naomi, with a knife to the back)

Ben is convinced that calling the boat will spell doom for everyone on the island, but still refuses to explain why. Could this be the reason why the Others are so convinced they're the good guys? Two people who will never see Ben in that light are Alex and Rousseau, who were finally reunited, and what beautiful first words Danielle first said to her long-lost daughter: "Will you help me tie him up?" Interestingly, the phone call is answered by someone named Minkowski, named after the physicist who first suggested that time was the fourth dimension, who didn't seemed surprised to hear the supposedly dead survivors of flight 815 radioing for help...
