Adele shares rare photo to mark birthday

British star Adele has shared some rare new photos with her fans online to mark her 33rd birthday.

The singer, who exploded onto the music scene more than a decade ago with her 2008 debut album 19 — a nod to her age at the time – ultimately followed by 21 and 25, has shared three new photos on Instagram.

The first shows the superstar — who, mocking her Essex accent, playfully dubbed her birthday "thirty free" in her caption — without her trademark flick of black eyeliner or any other makeup.

Wearing her blond hair long and loose, a barefaced Adele flashes a relaxed smile in the black-and-white Alexandra Waespi shot.

Two of her tattoos are visible: a Saturn on her forearm — thought to be a tribute to her 8-year-old son Angelo, whose father is ex-husband Simon Konecki — and the word "Paradise" inked along her left hand.

In contrast to that peaceful, all-natural shot, the other two images see Adele in a more celebratory mood.

She's wearing a vibrant patterned top while frolicking in the sea in one, and dancing in the third, which shows her sporting long curls and a tie-dyed dress.

Amid pleas for her to "drop" her next album, the singer's fans expressed their excitement over her new photos, the first she posted since October when she hosted Saturday Night Live.

"STUNNING. AS. ALWAYS." read one comment.

"You're so beautiful," many fans gushed.

"We love a self-loving queen," another commenter posted.

It was during her SNL monologue that Adele addressed her weight loss and changed appearance.

"I know I look really, really different since you last saw me, but actually, because of all the COVID restrictions and the travel bans, I had to travel light and could only bring half of me, and this is the half that I chose," she joked before curtsying to applause.

Adele caused waves online when she showed off the results of her epic 44kg weight loss. But her former trainer Pete Geracimo previously insisted she never wanted to get ‘super skinny’.

“As Adele's former London-based personal trainer, it's disheartening to read negative commentary and fat-phobic accusations questioning the genuineness of her amazing weight loss,” he wrote.

“When Adele and I started our journey together, it was never about getting super skinny. It was about getting her healthy. Especially post pregnancy and post surgery. When 25 dropped and the tour announced, we had to get ready for a 13 month gruelling schedule. In that time, she warmed to training and made better food choices.

“As a result, she lost considerable weight and people took notice. Her body transformation was splashed across every media outlet. The attention it generated was mind-blowing.”

A few fans were frustrated at the apparent shock at her glam look, arguing she had always been a stunner and the reaction betrayed size discrimination over to her weight loss.

“She’s always been gorgeous.,” one pointed out.

“Y’all really [out] here going crazy about her as if she hasn’t always been this gorgeous,” another wrote. “She’s just skinny now ….”
