Aussie model Robyn Lawley's shocking 'post-seizure' photo

Australian model Robyn Lawley has shocked her social media followers after sharing a graphic selfie of a painful-looking black eye and purple and green bruising around her swollen lip, to her Instagram account.

The Sports Illustrated swimsuit star explained in the caption that the photo was taken “post another seizure,” suggesting she sustained the facial injuries during the neurological episode.

Robyn was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus — commonly called ‘lupus’ — in 2015. It can cause seizures in some people.

Despite the severe bumps and bruises, Robyn’s sense of humour shone through when she referred to her eye — which appears to be bleeding under the surface of her eyeball — as a “lovely satan eye”.

The 31-year-old included two follow-up images that appear to show her injuries healing and the intense bruising and swelling slowly fading away.

Robyn’s followers flooded the comments section with well wishes and praise for sharing her private health journey.

“Holy hell that is a shiner. Hope you are feeling better,” wrote one.

“Love this so much. Thank you for exposing your raw story,” said another.

“Looks f***ing epic babe! Haha love you xxx,” one added.

Elsewhere in her post, Robyn revealed that she’s been working on a “secret project” with podcast platform Audible which has ‘helped her heal so tremendously’.

“It was so epic to be able to interview people and really not give a f*** how I looked,” she wrote.

“And I cannot wait for the series to be out! Big thank you to all my interviewees and I cannot wait to share your bad ass stories!!” she added.

Robyn concluded the caption with several hashtags that hint at the type of podcast she’s working on, such as “#bodypositivity,” “#fashion” and “#selflove”.

Living with lupus

Robyn opened up about her double lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome diagnosis following the birth of her five-year-old daughter Ripley, who she shares with partner Everest Schmidt.

She began experiencing symptoms from both autoimmune conditions before Ripley’s arrival.

“I had symptoms towards the end of the pregnancy,” Robyn told news.com.au in 2017.

“It started in the muscles. I couldn’t pick up things very well and I was losing the ability to walk and to talk.”

“When it first started happening it was incredibly intimidating,” she said in a 2018 interview with Sports Illustrated.

“It was also harder to manage as I didn't know what was wrong with me.”

That same year, Robyn shared a graphic image of severe facial injuries she sustained after suffering a seizure on her staircase and falling ‘over 7ft’.

The accident left the model with a ‘lighting bolt scar’ on her forehead just weeks before fashion week began.

Robyn has been contacted for comment.
