Coles is looking to give rivals Aldi and Woolworths a run for their money with the launch of a limited edition, affordable homewares line.

Starting Friday (March 11), customers can shop a range of trendy and reasonably priced furniture and home decor items including a $20 wooden side table and a $30 arched mirror.

The Best Buys Home Decorator collection, as it’s called, also includes a $30 Queen quilt cover set, cotton blend rugs for $40, and a number of artificial house plants, but the crown jewel is sure to be the $100 velvet occasional chair and its matching $25 ottoman that wouldn’t look out of place among the aisles of Kmart.

A number of tech items like a $299, 40-inch Android TV and a $70 car camera with night vision, are also included in the limited time special offer.

How to get your hands on the collection

Similar to Aldi’s Special Buys, the items are part of a very limited time offer and will only be available until March 17 or while stocks last.

Another thing to bear in mind is that only a select number of stores will carry the stock, so check page six of the catalogue here to find the participating stores nearest to you.

Unfortunately, Western Australians will be missing out this time due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’, but there are lots of Coles supermarkets taking part throughout the rest of the country.

For a wider range of homewares, you can head to Coles’ Best Buys online marketplace which - like Woolworths’ Everyday Market - stocks a whole range of household products that just wouldn’t be able to fit on the supermarket floor.

Some of the highlights there include this rattan bar cart for $199, this set of two olive green, velvet bar stools for $190 and this large, iron arch mirror for $269.

Coles’ General Manager for Non-Food, Jonathan Torr says, "Our Coles Best Buys offering in-store and online has proven incredibly popular with our customers over the past year."

"We're excited to extend our selection of premium, home décor and furniture items under the trusted Best Buys brand that our customers know and love."

Woolies also expanding homewares

Last year, Woolworths did a similar homewares launch in selected stores with things like lamps, linen sets and accessories for the home office, and like Coles, it has a larger collection online.

While it isn’t currently stocking furniture, the Everyday Market has thousands of home, beauty, kitchen, pet and kids products available to online shoppers.

Some of the goodies currently in stock include a Breville dehumidifier for $349, a set of three, reusable cloth nappies for $100, an elevated pet’s sofa bed for $127 and a kids all-in-one toy kitchen for $290.

There are also a number of specials around at the moment like this compact Philips Air Fryer that’s on sale for $149 from $199, and this Nintendo Switch OLED that’s going for $499 instead of $539.
