Coles shopper shares TikTok hack for ‘free’ groceries with your receipt

A TikTok user has revealed the small detail on Coles receipts that can help shoppers get groceries for free.

Dee (@deet2020) explained to her followers that if an item’s price tag doesn’t match the price on your receipt after purchasing it, the store will give you your money back and let you keep the product.

“If you buy anything from Coles or Woolies and the price is different to what’s advertised, you get a FULL REFUND plus the item for free,” she wrote.

“Check your receipts people!”

The Sydney shopper and her brother - who she says “didn’t believe” it would work - tested out the hack at Coles when they were charged $7.50 for a pack of sausages advertised on special at $5.63.

“Kaching!” they captioned the photo of their final receipt, showing that they were refunded the full amount and were still able to take the sausages home.

Dee also pointed out that the trick is listed on Coles’ website under ‘Our Promise on Price Scanning’.

“If a single item scans at a higher price than the advertised or ticketed shelf price for that item, we will give you that item FREE,” the promise reads.

The video, which currently has over 200k views on TikTok, has received plenty of comments from people who are fans of the hack.

“I got a free item just the other day because of this same reason,” one person wrote.

“My mum has done this for years, works at Coles and Woolies,” another added.

“Not all superheroes wear capes,” someone else remarked, while a fourth shared, “Thanks for sharing, had no idea!”

Meanwhile, a different user commented a caveat to the method, revealing that it only works on the first item you purchased.

“If you bought multiple, you get the rest at the advertised price,” they said.
