Jill Biden, 69, rocking fishnet-style tights sparks social media storm

US First Lady Dr Jill Biden set social media alight when she stepped out in a pair of fishnet-style patterned tights, a black leather skirt, and stiletto ankle boots.

The 69-year-old was pictured exiting her plane at Andrews Air Force Base, after arriving back in Washington DC following a trip to California, with her bold look receiving a very mixed reaction online.

Some people took to Twitter to slam the look, calling it 'trashy' and 'embarrassing' and accusing the professor of being 'too old'.

"Madonna called and wants her trashy look back, Doc," one person wrote.

"Hey Jill Biden. It’s not called Forever61 for a reason. Forever21 needs a cut-off date," another said, referring to the US youth fashion retailer.

While another said: "Jill Biden is just too old to be wearing fishnets. It’s gross. But Melania on the other hand would rock them."

However, just as many people were quick to defend the FLOTUS, with plenty of praise flooding social media for the "bold" outfit choice.

"Can't believe all the fuss about Jill Biden's tights. In 2021 ffs," was one response.

"There is no such thing as age appropriate," another agreed.

While a third said: "Dr Jill Biden's tights were Not fishnets. Also they were quite cute and she rocked them."

During the same trip, Jill actually pranked reporters and staff during the flight, disguising herself as a flight attendant to pass out ice cream bars for April Fool's.

Staff, Secret Service and press were treated to dessert by a woman with short black hair, a black face mask and a nametag that read 'Jasmine', who made her way through the cabins. Five minutes later, 'Jasmine' reappeared in the press section, wig removed, revealing herself to be none other than Biden herself.

On Election Day last year, some people spotted a hidden meaning behind Jill Biden's election dress.

During her appearance on stage alongside husband Joe for his victory address, Jill wore an asymmetric floral dress by designer Oscar de la Renta, reportedly paying homage to former first ladies.

Every first lady since Jackie Kennedy has been dressed by the Dominican fashion designer, including the inaugural ball gowns for Hillary Clinton, Nancy Reagan and Kennedy.

And as Vogue pointed out online, the outfit choice was also notable for another reason.

“Because it was designed by Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, both immigrants to the United States who trained under Oscar de la Renta (himself an immigrant from the Dominican Republic),” the publication explained.
