Naked Harvest founder Georgie Stevenson on 'breaking the bias' at home and at work

When Naked Harvest co-founder Georgie Stevenson welcomed her baby girl Ivy late last year her world was completely turned on its head.

And today, on International Women's Day, the entrepreneur and business owner opens up about challenging some of the more 'traditional' biases in both the worlds of business and parenting.

"Two months ago my baby girl Ivy was born and she's completely turned my world upside down in the best possible way," Georgie tells Yahoo Lifestyle. "I'm currently juggling mum life while also being back at work part time.

"I definitely didn't expect it to be this hard (juggling a baby and my businesses), but thankfully I have a husband at home to take care of Ivy while I'm at the office."

While the number of stay-at-home dads is growing, the statistics remain relatively low with only around 7 per cent of fathers taking on those duties in 2016. For Georgie, the move to have hubby stay home while she returned to work seemed like a 'natural' fit.

"This wasn't so much a 'choice' but a natural progression for us," she explains. "Tim has always wanted to be a dad for as long as I can remember, so he's currently living his best life at home with Ivy.

"I love being busy and I'm so passionate about what I do that I was excited to get back into things once I felt ready. I think it’s just all about doing what works best for your family, and for us it was this."

When it comes to the balancing act of motherhood and running a business, Georgie stresses it's all about having the right support network.

"Lean on your support system! The first few weeks of motherhood were the hardest and I couldn't have gotten through it without Tim and my parents by my side," she says.

"I'm also incredibly grateful for my brother, co-founder of Naked Harvest, and our team for holding down the fort while I spent the first few months at home with Ivy. Even now, I'm only back part time supporting our team, while they do the heavy lifting which has been the biggest blessing."

When it comes to the theme of this year's International Women's Day, Georgie says she and the team at Naked Harvest have always focused on empowering women to do anything they want.

"I'm so passionate about this theme and I feel it's an important message to celebrate," she says.

"I’ve always been about women being able to do it all and I don’t think there should be such a separation in the workplace, for example, on what men’s or women’s roles should look like."

Naked Harvest Supplements is continuing to revolutionise the standard of women’s active health supplements by creating products that use the finest ingredients Mother Nature has to offer to complement and optimise your day. The focus remains - for women, by women.

"Naked Harvest was created at a time where female focused supplement brands were few and far between," Georgie recalls.

"We are SO passionate about women that today our company is operated by 90% female employees. The majority of our warehouse staff are women. They operate our forklifts, pack orders, drive trucks.

"I love being surrounded by a team of so many incredible women and they’re all amazing at what they do.

"We've got girls making boss business moves daily. These women inspire and challenge me to grow every single day.

"They are strong, fierce, powerful, and represent everything that makes us (as a collective), something to celebrate."

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.
