Aussie star Sia, 44, becomes a grandma after adopting two sons

Sia has become a grandmother at the age of 44 after one of her adoptive sons welcomed two children.

The notoriously private Aussie singer opened up about her personal joy in an interview with Apple Music presenter Zane Lowe on Tuesday.

“My youngest son just had two babies. I’m a f**king grandma!” she laughed.

The Cheap Thrills hit-maker added that while her boys now call her ‘nana’ she’s trying to persuade them to use a different monicker.

“I’m trying to get them to call me ‘lovey’ like Kris Kardashian,” she explained, referencing the nickname Kris’s grandchildren use for her.

The ARIA award winner also revealed that one of her boys had ‘recently came out’. “He’s just blossoming and is the light of my life... I love him so much,’ she said.

Sia — born Sia Kate Isobelle Furler in Adelaide — confirmed she’d adopted two 18-year-old teen boys ‘who had nowhere to go’ in an interview back in May.

“I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18 - they're both 19 years old now. They were ageing out of the foster care system. Yeah, and I love them,” she said on SiriusXM.

The prolific songwriter has yet to share any further details about her children such as their names or photos.

She did, however, offer insight into their life during COVID-19 lockdown in her Los Angeles home.

“They are both finding it pretty difficult, one more so than the other. But they're both doing things that are really good for them right now, that are really helpful. They're really doing a lot of educational stuff that's good for them,” she said.

Sia first hinted at adopting her first child in January 2020 during an interview with GQ magazine, where she spoke about texting fellow Aussie musician and collaborator Diplo about ‘no-strings sex’.

“Much of our relationship is just being spent trying not to have sex so that we wouldn't ruin our business relationship because he's super-duper hot,” she told GQ.

“This year I wrote him a text, and I said, ‘Hey, listen, you're like one of five people that I'm sexually attracted to, and now that I've decided to be single for the rest of my life and I just adopted a son, I don't have time for a relationship.

“‘If you're interested in some no-strings sex, then hit me up’.”

Sia also took to her Twitter this time last year to say that she was trying to foster Dasani, a 16-year-old who was featured in the HBO documentary Foster.

“Hey Dasani from “FOSTER” on @HBO! I'd like to adopt you we're just trying to find you and get my house check done etc,” she tweeted.

“But I want you to know you will have a home with me.”
