Sunrise stars reportedly worried about a 'rat' after leaked 7News video

Not long after the culprit behind the viral leaked footage of 7News Melbourne anchors Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor calling Novak Djokovic an “a***hole” was revealed, two of Channel Seven’s biggest stars are now reportedly feeling worried about a similar situation happening to them.

Sunrise hosts Natalie Barr and David ‘Kochie’ Koch, who are based in the Sydney office, are said to be concerned that a “rat” could also potentially leak their off-air conversations, Daily Mail claims a source told New Idea.

“Nat and Kochie would be wondering how many times they've had a private chat about something or someone, and will now be forced to watch every single word they say from here on in,” they claimed, adding that “there’s a lot of backstabbing… in TV”.

“Everyone on TV knows there's banter off-air, and when the cameras are on it's a whole other picture.”

A leaked video went viral last week of Channel Seven stars Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor discussing their brutally honest opinions about Novak Djokovic as they prepared to read the 6pm news.

“Whatever way you look at it, Novak Djokovic is a lying, sneaky, a***hole,” Rebecca remarked in the footage, questioning whether Djokovic isolated in the days after testing positive for Covid-19 on December 16, with photos emerging of him attending events in Serbia.

“It’s unfortunate that everybody else stuffed up around him. To go out when you know you’re Covid-positive - well, I don’t think he was even Covid-positive…”

Mike also labelled Djokovic an “a***hole”, saying: “You’ve got a bulls**t f***ing excuse and then he fell over his own f***ing lies, which is what happens right?”

After a three-day investigation, the source of the leak was identified as an employee at the closed-captions company that works with Channel Seven, Ai-Media Technologies Limited.

The network was reportedly led to Ai-Media after noticing a timestamp in the video that wasn’t available on their own feed.

“As a result of the investigation, Ai-Media has identified that an employee working remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak was responsible for the unauthorised distribution of the content,” the company confirmed in a statement to the Australian Stock Exchange.

“Appropriate action has been taken with regard to the employee responsible.”

The update comes shortly after US TV host Jimmy Kimmel mocked the incident on his talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“Have you been following the legal battle between Novak Djokovic and the Australian Government?” he began.

“It’s a very big story Down Under, one that led to this exchange on TV news where these anchors were apparently unaware they were on the air.

After playing a snippet of the off-air discussion, which was met with enormous laughter from the studio audience, he jokingly added: “Why isn’t all the news like that? I would watch the news every night.

“‘I think he’s an a***hole… Now let’s check in with Ron in the Channel 9 weather centre.’”
