Target shoppers lose it over grownup Bluey costumes: 'Love it'

Since its launch in 2018, Aussie kids cartoon Bluey has been hugely popular for showing family life with positive role models and kids engaging in unstructured play.

Children around the world love the characters and messages while adults and critics alike praise it for its realistic depiction of family life.

But it's not just adults with kids that love the Australian made cartoon.

"My partner and I do not have children, but we watch cartoons, as many are much better entertainment than much of the badly written, unimaginative television available. When we came across Bluey we knew it would be popular, the characters are intelligent, witty but most of all caring," one reviewer said on Google.

So it comes as no surprise that department store Target's Bluey costumes for adults are a hit.

There were already costumes of Bluey and her sister Bingo for kids to dress up in but now there are adult-sized costumes of their parents - dad Bandit and mum Chilli - for grownups to enjoy.

"Bluey is a spritely six year old Blue Heeler pup, with an abundance of energy, imagination and curiosity. The young dog lives with her father, Bandit, mother, Chilli and younger sister, Bingo, who regularly joins Bluey on adventures as the pair embark on imaginative play together," Target explain on their site.

"Chilli, the Red Heeler mum works part-time in airport security and loves spending time with her young pups and sometimes crazy husband, Bandit. Pre-schoolers all over the world love Chilli - maybe she's a bit like your Mum?" they add on the costume for Chilli with a similar description on Bandit's costume page.

And with the kids' costumes ranging from $19 - $29 depending on the size and the adult costumes being just $25, it won't break the bank to kit out the whole family.

And on one Facebook group, they're loving the idea.

"We should get some. The kids would get a kick out of it," one follower of Markdown Addicts Australia wrote when the costumes were posted in the group.

"Need this!! Book week coming up, they’d love it," another pointed out as many parents struggle to come up with costumes for their kids each year for World Book Day. Though strictly speaking, Bluey started as a cartoon, there are of course storybooks that recount the adventures of the blue heeler puppy and her family.

"To wear for drop off and picking up from school," another put followed by a laughing gif. The group were obviously tickled by the outfits as the post has had over 200 comments.

So what are you going to dress up for...?
