Today host Ally Langdon shocked by co-star's jab: 'Not happy'

Viewers of the Today show witnessed a tense moment between host Allison Langdon and sports reporter Tony Jones on Friday morning.

During a live cross to Tony in Melbourne, the 59-year-old admitted to feeling rather irritated by the news that the city's Covid lockdown had been extended yet again.

"I'm not happy anymore, I'm a little on the grumpy side," he told Ally and her co-host Karl Stefanovic back in the studio.

With a cheeky smile playing on her face, Ally innocently asked Tony; "When was the last time you were happy, TJ?"

Without missing a beat, Tony replied; "Oh, when Sophie filled in."

He was, of course, referring to Nine News presenter Sophie Walsh, who recently filled in for Ally for a fortnight while she was on leave.

Ally saw the funny side of her co-star's jab and had a good laugh along with Karl while Tony cracked a grin.

Ally promised to have a comeback ready in the next half-hour of the show.

Tony is currently the weeknight sport presenter for Nine News Melbourne but had a brief, 11-month stint on Today beginning in January 2019 when he replaced Tim Gilbert.

During his final appearance on the morning program in November 2019 Tony infamously went slightly off script, leaving his colleagues to diffuse the awkward on-air moment.
