Wet-look hair was a clear trend as stars hit the red carpet at the Oscars this week.

From Kourtney Kardashian and Aladdin star Naomi Scott, who wore their bobbed haircuts in a neat side part on the red carpet, to Ciara and model Hunter Schafer who wore their longer tresses slicked back to the Vanity Fair after party - the wet-look is sleek and chic right now.

Here's how to recreate the wet-look successfully, without your hair looking greasy or crunchy:

1. Towel dry your hair by blotting, not rubbing, so it doesn't go frizzy.

When it's around 60% dry, comb with a wide tooth comb and leave it damp.

2. Choose a high-shine hair gel, such as Bouclème Super Hold Styler, $30, and mix it with a tiny bit of shine cream, such as Redken Outshine 01 Anti-Frizz Polishing Milk, $38.

Smooth it all the way through and comb.

3. Mix a shine pomade, such as ELEVEN Australia Slick Hold Styling Pomade, $19.96, with some wax to hold the hair in place.

Oribe Rough Luxury Moulding Wax, $40.43, will give texture and hold without crispiness.

When the two are mixed in the palm of your hand, smooth it through your hair.

4. If you're slicking back a short pixie-style do, use a wide-tooth comb for a more relaxed vibe, or a fine-tooth comb for a sleeker look. If your hair is curly, just use your fingers to style it.

5. If you have longer hair with a side part, use a few hair grips, like these Lady Jayne Bobby Pins, $4.49, behind the ear.

This will secure your hair if some of the product starts to wear off.

To tie back wet-look hair, comb through once you've applied your product, then use a subtle hairband.

To complete the look, give an extra spritz of shine; ghd Shiny ever after final shine spray, $35, gives hair a final glossy layer for the perfect wet-look up-do.
