We're all guilty of it. It's easy to be swept up in the skincare hype, buying beautifully-packaged products or viral serums and creams we've seen online.

Before we know it, we're spending half our pay cheque on a multi-step beauty routine, with a load of products declaring they solve everything.

But what if you only needed to spend $5 on one product?

For TikTok user, maddyylal, this is exactly what she found after a trip to the shops.

Posting to her 5000 followers, the social worker joked that she spent "$1289220 on skincare from Mecca" to treat her acne-prone skin, but it cleared up after using Simple's Skin Moisturising Cleanser, currently $11 from Woolworths.

The 23-year-old shared a photo of her severely affected skin before using the supermarket cleanser, and then an after photo of herself sitting in the sun with clear, glowing skin.

"Product is Simple Skin Moisturising Cleanser," she tells her followers, who understandably have been going wild for the solution.

As well as the budget moisturiser, Maddy revealed she also uses La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+) Acne Moisturiser, currently on sale for $25 at Adore Beauty, as well as Bio Oil, retailing from $13.

"Tell me why, when I stopped doing a 10-step skincare routine and just removing my makeup and moisturising, my skin is a whole new baby," one of her followers joked.

"YES!!!" Maddy replied.

"That’s what I’m saying, hahaha! The ingredients in those products irritated my skin so much."

Since sharing her incredible skin transformation on TikTok, people have flooded to the post, sharing their own experiences with Simple's Skin Moisturising Cleanser.

"YES, THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL! Acne = gone," one vowed.

"Stop. I’ve been using this since I was like 14 and I swear by it! How good," a second wrote.

The viral face cleanser from Simple is enriched with the "purest possible ingredients and multi-vitamins", including pro-vitamin B5, vitamin E and Bisabolol, leaving skin feeling soft and hydrated.

100% soap-free, the budget face wash is also vegan and free from colours, artificial perfume or harsh chemicals that can upset skin, making it perfect even for sensitive skin.

Many TikTok users have shared another budget face cleanser they swear by, available from $13 at Chemist Warehouse.

Beautiful skin on a budget

"I’ve dropped so much money on skincare, but the CeraVe [cleanser] is the only thing that’s cleared up my face," a skincare enthusiast wrote.

"Spend $100s on skin care, only for it to give me perioral dermatitis that resulted in antibiotics for six months," a second added.

"Good old CeraVe was my saviour."

After her own successful experience with budget cleansers, Maddy was immediately interested in this chemist cult buy.

"I need to try CeraVe, I’ve heard such good things!!" she replied.

With a solid 4.8 rating on Adore Beauty, CeraVe's hydrating cleanser was developed with dermatologists with three essential ceramides to strengthen the skin's protective barrier.

The non-comedogenic product also features patented moisturising technology (MVE), delivering 24 hours of hydration, while leaving the skin to breathe.

Certified by the Eczema Association Australia, CeraVe's cleanser is also suitable for sensitive skin.
