Police are investigating the suspicious death of a baby boy died after he was found unresponsive in a quiet suburban home.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Stanley Street, St Marys in Sydney’s west, following reports a baby was unresponsive about 4.15am on Sunday.

The seven-week-old baby was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead by could not be saved despite paramedics performing CPR on the infant.

NSW Police Homicide Squad detectives are now assisting with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

A crime scene has been established at the home and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
