Bondi Westfield stabbing: Attacker identified as new details emerge
The 40-year-old man was killed by a senior police officer who ran into the shopping centre to confront the man alone.
The 40-year-man responsible for the death of six people during the brutal Bondi Junction stabbing has been identified by police as Joel Cauchi.
Addressing media on Sunday morning, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke confirmed the Queensland man had travelled to Sydney last month before carrying out the shocking attack on Saturday afternoon.
"We know that shortly after coming to Sydney, he took possession of a storage facility that has been identified and we have worked through that very small storage facility," Assistant Commissioner Cooke said during a press conference on Sunday.
"There is still nothing that we have, no information we have received, no evidence we have recovered, no intelligence we have gathered, that would suggest that this was driven by any particular motivation, ideology or otherwise."
A police investigation is currently underway as investigators "continue to work through the profiling of the offender," Assistant Commissioner Cooke continued. The man's family has been notified and is cooperating with police.
"It's very clear to us at this stage, it would appear that this is related to the mental health of the individual involved," he added.

Westfield Bondi Junction remains a crime scene as investigations continue throughout the day. Six people have been confirmed dead in the attack which was carried out at roughly 3:30pm on Saturday, including five women and one man.
Among them was 38-year-old woman Ash Good who died in hospital from her injuries after being stabbed alongside her nine-month-old baby. Assistant Commissioner Cooke said the infant is in a "serious but stable condition in hospital".
Two of the victims were from overseas and have no family in Australia, it's been confirmed.

Videos filmed by terrified shoppers show the lone man, who wore a Kangaroos jersey, wielding a "big blade" as he made his way through the shopping centre. A short clip of the incident shared online shows the knifeman walking up an escalator while a man, armed with a bollard, confronts him at the top.

"If there are people out there who have not spoken with the Police and they have information, would you please make yourselves known to us."
NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said on Sunday 12 people - v - were currently in hospital, in conditions ranging from critical to stable.
