Child, 3, dies after being left in hot car in Sydney

The death occurred in the Sydney suburb of Glenfield as temperatures surpassed 30C on Thursday.

A child has died after they were left inside a hot car in Sydney's southwest.

The three-year-old was found in the vehicle outside shops on Railway Parade in Glenfield, NSW Police said. Emergency services rushed to the scene about 3pm but the child could not be saved.

"The vehicle’s owner, a man known to the child, raised the alarm when he returned to the car," police said in a statement.

The child was inside the vehicle "throughout the day", police said.

The man is assisting police at Campbelltown Police Station as investigations into the death continue. The ABC understands the man is the father of the child. A man at the scene could be seen sat on the ground in clear distress over the incident..
