Driver's bold response to 'idiotic' car park act

It's a controversial car park act that has gained traction in Australia in recent years.

Reserving a parking space by simply standing in it, is a divisive move that has often sparked debate. Video of conflict between drivers and perpetrators has often been shared.

But instead of the usual heated standstill, one driver in China implemented a no-nonsense approach when confronted with two women standing in a vacant space.

Video which has gone viral on Chinese social media site Weibo shows the driver slowly reversing into the spot despite the women's best efforts to stop the car.

They are filmed trying to hold their ground and attempting to push the vehicle back but to no avail.

"What kind of person is this?" one of the women say.

She can then be heard calling someone.

"Hello, someone is trying to take my parking space," she says on the phone.

Once the driver successfully parks and exits her vehicle, an argument ensues.

"How can someone occupy a parking space like this?" the driver asks the irate women.

Authorities investigate incident

The matter was later dealt with by the Jiangning Public Security Bureau who investigated the incident.

While authorities in the city of Nanjing recognised parking spaces should be operated on a first come, first served basis for vehicles only, they described the driver's actions as dangerous.

The car park management has been requested to increase surveillance inside the car park.

Behaviour slammed as 'ridiculous'

The video has been circulated widely online and unsurprisingly triggered a wave of comments across social media platforms.

Many users criticised the two women for trying to claim the space without a vehicle.

Their behaviour was described as "idiotic" and "ridiculous".

"Trying to reserve parking spots using friends or family is absolute nonsense!" one person wrote.

"I'd be so embarrassed to call the police about this," another said, believing one of the women was speaking with police on the phone.

"Shameless," another bluntly said about the women.

Some criticised the driver however, suggesting her behaviour was not proportionate.

"It is not illegal for people to occupy a space, but it is immoral. Yet it is illegal for a car to hit a person," they said.
