Former hotel employee reveals 'gross' claim about some rooms: 'Should be illegal'
A former hotel employee went viral after sharing secrets she learned while on the job.
TikTok user @janessarichard gave her followers a few tips that are sure to be helpful as the world begins to travel again.

In her first video, she warned potential guests that most hotels do not wash their comforters for duvets between stays.
“They wash it maybe once a year, which is really freaking gross,” she claimed. “There are so many germs, and I don’t even know what else on there.”

She recommended taking that blanket off the bed first thing.
User @janessarichard also said that if you’re “very nice,” you might be upgraded to a suite at no extra cost if there are rooms available. She also revealed that hotel employees are legally not allowed to say your room number out loud, so that’s why they always write it on a piece of paper.
In her second video, she said hotels typically don’t change out the toilet paper roll between guests. They just fold it and make it look pretty.
She added that there are “a lot of shady things that happen in hotels” — things that you’d only think happen in movies — at least at the hotel where she was employed.
In another video, @janessarichard warned against drinking from the glasses provided in your hotel room.
“Almost every standard room you book comes with a water bottle and drinking glasses in the room,” she said. “I would NOT recommend you drinking in those glasses because they’re often not changed in between guests, as long as they ‘look’ clean.”
The former hotel employee’s so-called secrets left commenters shocked.
“Newfound fear of hotels after all these confessions,” one user said.
“The duvet thing should be illegal,” another wrote.
