Family of five dies after car is crushed between trucks
WARNING – DISTRESSING CONTENT: An entire family has been killed after the car they were driving was crushed between two trucks.
The two adults, teen and two babies died in the horrific incident on the BR-316 motorway in northern Brazil on April 19.
Footage of the crash shows the car travelling behind a slow-moving truck while another approaches from behind at speed, completely crushing the car between the two larger vehicles.
The footage also shows how the car was reduced to a ball of metal and was run over by the cement-carrying truck at the rear.
The fire brigade was called to the scene and, after cutting and dismantling the mangled metal mass that the car had been turned into, firefighters found the bodies of five people inside.
They have since been identified as Marcio Ramos de Souza, his wife, teacher Dina Charlen Ramos de Souza, their niece, 14-year-old Kethenen Wenil, and their two daughters, both under the age of three.
Their bodies were buried in their hometown of Braganca, around a 1.5-hour drive from the scene of the incident.
The Federal Highway Police are investigating the case and the driver of the rear lorry was taken to the local police station following the crash. It is not yet known if he faces charges.
