Family shattered after father crushed by shipping container

Seven children from Victoria have been left heartbroken and wondering where their father is, following a horrific workplace accident on Monday morning.

On Monday, Darren Lamb, 44, was crushed while driving a forklift at Conroy Removals after a shipping container fell on him in Dandenong South.

In a statement to Yahoo News Australia, Victoria Police said authorities were called to a business on Fowler Road just after 6.45am on Monday, following reports of a man being crushed by a shipping container.

Police said Mr Lamb, from Koo Wee Rup, died at the scene.

Mr Lamb leaves behind his wife of more than 22 years and seven children, the youngest being just one year old. A GoFundMe set up by a friend also said the family had pets.

His wife, Charlene Lamb, told the Greater Dandenong Leader Mr Lamb spent every free moment he had with his children.

“[Our kids] are wondering where their daddy is and when he will be back," Ms Lamb said.

“We are just so lost.”

Mrs Lamb recalled the first time she saw her husband cry — 22 years ago when she walked down the aisle in Las Vegas.

Mrs Lamb said she would never forget the look on his face as she walked towards him that day.

Community rallies behind family

The money raised through the GoFundMe will support the Lamb family financially, and one person pledged to support Mrs Lamb with the seven kids.

"We will continue to be by your side and help you raise your beautiful children, even though you are one hell of an awesome mumma," the donor wrote on the GoFundMe.

One friend on Facebook said they were "absolutely shattered" to hear Mr Lamb had passed away and said they would miss the banter the father-of-seven provided.

"You definitely were one of a kind and will be missed by so many people," the friend wrote.

Victorian Brotherhood Male Suicide Awareness said Mr Lamb was an avid supporter of the group in a post paying tribute to him.

"Time spent with family is so important, please make sure when you go home tonight to give your partner and kids a massive hug because you never know when your time is up," the tribute said.

"Nothing we do can bring him back but we can make sure his memory lives on."

Speaking to the Greater Dandenong Leader, director of Conroy Removals, Philip Gordon, said he was a valued employee.

“As we are a family company that has a close-knit team this has had a devastating impact on all our people,” Mr Gordon said.

“Our priority at this time is to provide support to the family of our lost team member and all our Melbourne team.”

Victoria Police confirmed a report would be prepared for the coroner and Work Safe is now investigating the death.
