Heartbreak as newlyweds killed after just 48 hours of marriage
A couple who had been married for 48 hours, have been identified as two of the three people killed in a car crash last Sunday in the US state of Tennessee.
At around 3am on Sunday morning officers attached to the Knoxville Police Department were called to a crash site, where they found newlyweds Jessiah Plemons, 31, and Lily Rose, 25, as well as Madison Davis, 23.
All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, police said it is believed the Dodge pickup truck the three were travelling in struck a guardrail on the ramp on Weisgarber Road, and then got out of the vehicle.
While Mr Plemons, Ms Rose and Ms Davis were standing next to their vehicle, a Chevrolet struck their pickup truck and all three of them.
The Chevrolet driver was removed from the vehicle and was taken to hospital with injuries that "do not appear to be life threatening".
Milea Effler, Mr Plemons's sister told local news station WATE, he had just married Ms Rose on October 15, just two days before the crash.
August McClelland, Ms Rose's cousin said she had been the "happiest she'd ever been".
Ms Effler said her brother and Ms Rose had a special bond and said she didn't know the couple had ran off to elope until she saw the news on social media.
However, before she could congratulate them, her mother, Michelle Plemons, was told they had both died.
Selena McClelland, Ms Rose's aunt, told WATE Ms Rose was the "life of the family".
"She was tragically taken from us and we need support," Ms McClelland wrote on GoFundMe.
"She has two precious children that she loved with all her heart and a family that loves her dearly."
While Ms Rose had two children and was devoted to them, Mr Plemons took in two of his sister's kids, so they wouldn't be taken away by the Department of Children’s Services.
"Jess was a great person who left this world too early. He fought to keep our family together and to give what he could," Mr Plemons's memorial fund on GoFundMe says.
Years ago, he struggled with addiction, but his mother, Ms Plemons, said once he got sober, he did what he could to give back, by sponsoring people and speaking at jails "to try to give others a thought of having a brighter future".
According to an online obituary on Knox News, Ms Davis "loved all people authentically and without reservation".
"She also loved dogs, especially her dog, Oreo,"the obituary said.
"An avid athlete, competitor, and sports fan, Madison's playful spirit filled every part of her life and the lives of those around her."
