Fines issued after 500 people attend party on NSW nudist beach
Hundreds of people were reportedly partying at a nudist beach over the weekend despite coronavirus rules permitting outdoor gatherings of just 20 people.
Police were called to Tyagarah Beach, in the NSW Byron Shire, over complaints there was a large gathering of party-goers.
Officers from Tweed/Byron noted the prominence of more than 20 people at the party when they arrived about 7.30am on Sunday.
Throughout the previous evening there had been about 500 people at the party, police were told.
Tyagarah Beach is a clothes optional beach where nude bathing is permitted.
Just three of the attendees were issued with $1000 Penalty Infringement Notices (PINs) for flouting COVID-19 public health orders.
They were among eight people to be issued PINs over the weekend in relation to not complying with coronavirus rules.
Two people in a home in Broken Hill had their speakers seized on Sunday evening and were issued a $1000 PIN each after police arrived about 10pm following several noise complaints.
A car with three people inside were stopped on Saturday about 12.20am and were found to have entered NSW from Victoria without a valid permit.
They were all issued an $1000 PIN for not complying with coronavirus rules restricting travel between the two states.
