'Back the f*** up': Man's angry outburst after being asked to wear a face mask

A man has been filmed launching into an aggressive attack after being confronted inside a shop for not following coronavirus protocol.

The shopper, identified as Daniel Maples, apparently “flipped out” at an elderly woman after she asked him to wear a mask while shopping at Costco in Fort Myers, in the US state of Florida.

Footage of the confrontation was shared to Twitter on Monday (local time) by filmmaker Billy Corben.

“Florida man at Fort Myers Costco in ‘Running the World Since 1776’ shirt flips out on elderly woman who asked him to wear a mask and man who defended her,” Corben wrote.

Mr Maples was heard on the video shouting “you are harassing me and my family” and saying “I feel threatened”.

The person filming is heard telling him, “you’re coming close to me”, with Mr Maples responding “back up, threaten me again”.

He was then shown briefly walking away before swiftly turning back around and approaching the camera to say, “Back the f*** up. Put your f***ing phone down”.

Corben later confirmed the heated encounter had unfolded on June 27, with a witness telling him Mr Maples was removed from the store after the confrontation.

Mr Maples was sacked from his job at an insurance company after the video surfaced.

“Thank you to everyone for their comments and messages raising awareness about a former employee at Ted Todd Insurance,” a statement to the Facebook of the company read.

“Their behaviour in the video is in direct conflict with our company values and their employment has been terminated.

“Threatening behaviour and intimidation go against our core mission to be trusted advisors in our community.”

Costco requires customers to wear a face mask covering their mouth and nose while shopping.
