Former Miss Showgirl dies in horror crash in rural Aussie town

A former pageant winner has been killed in a horrific car crash in Morgan Park, near the rural Queensland town of Warwick.

Melita Cupitt, 22, was the sole occupant of the vehicle when it veered off Warwick-Killarney Road at about 7.55pm on Friday night, Queensland Police said.

“She sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a statement.

Ms Cupitt was crowned Miss Junior Showgirl by the Dalby Show Society in February 2017. The pageant encourages young women from across the state to “develop their leadership and confidence to represent their local show”, according to their Facebook page.

The news of the 22-year-old’s death rocked the Warwick community, with tributes pouring in online.

Ms Cupitt’s heartbroken partner, Jake, said he was struggling to come to terms with her death.

“My beautiful girl… I love you so so much. You were taken away from us way too early,” he wrote on Facebook.

“These past few months we have been together you have made me so happy and made me want to be a better person. I honestly can't believe you are gone I will never forget you my love you will always be in my heart I love you baby girl rest easy up there.”

One friend said she’d miss Ms Cupitt’s “infectious smile and radiant personality”, while another described her as a “beautiful” person.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash, with police asking anyone who may have dash cam footage of the crash or the moments leading up to it to contact police.
