Heartbreaking details emerge after baby found dead outside school
Heartbreaking details have emerged after a baby was found dead inside a car outside a Perth private school.
Emergency services were called to Kingsway Christian College at Darch in Perth's north about 5.40pm on Wednesday, after receiving a call about an 11-month-old girl.
Police revealed on Thursday that the mum, 39, rushed the child into the school in a desperate attempt to save her life after seeing her in the car.
Despite receiving immediate care, she could not be resuscitated.
The mother had been at the school to pick up or drop off another child, Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said.
The length of time the child had been in the car will form part of the police investigation, which is ongoing, Commissioner Dawson said.
The child's mother has spoken with police and has since been released.
"It is a very tragic event and we will deal with it sensitively," Mr Dawson said.
After-hours childcare facility was operating during school holidays
St John Ambulance confirmed three crews were called to the school on Wednesday evening.
Police on Thursday morning did not indicate if the baby's death was suspicious.
Forensics officers were seen focusing on one classroom and a white van on the grounds of the school, which was examined and then towed away by police, The West Australian reported.
Officers were seen searching the area by torchlight late into the night on Wednesday, WA Today reported.
The school is closed for holidays until next week, but an after-hours childcare facility was still operating, The West reported.
Kingsway Christian College is a private school located about 18km from Perth's CBD with students from kindergarten to year 12.
