How rape victim's powerful Instagram post helped catch suspect

Police have have arrested an alleged rapist after the victim posted a detailed account of her ordeal on social media.

The victim from the Jakarta Metropolitan Area, in Indonesia, posted CCTV images of the suspect alongside information about the alleged rape on her Instagram account on Friday.

“It has almost been a year for me to finally take up the courage to talk about this event that has been haunting me until this day,” she wrote on her account.

“I would not have done this if the police would have taken action, but by law I do not have enough evidence to put this f***er into jail so all I can do is expose him,” she continued.

According to the young woman, the suspect broke into her house on August 13, 2019 when she was still asleep and beat her several times with what she thought was a piece of metal.

“I was bleeding from my head and lying almost unconscious on the floor with several bad bruises from my head to my shoulders,” she wrote.

‘He told me to stay quiet’

After pleading with the suspect not to kill her, she noticed he had a knife.

“He told me to stay quiet and proceeded to sexually assault me (yes, the r word),” she wrote in her post.

The suspect took her mobile phone and fled the house.

The young woman waited until she felt safe enough to raise the alarm before making a police report and undergoing an examination at hospital.

The victim claims that same day the suspect sent her messages “first trying to apologise, then once again threatening me because he ‘let me live’,” she wrote.

She claims he also sent her direct messages on social media asking her “Is your belly big yet?”

The victim was originally told by police that there was not enough evidence to arrest the suspect at the time of the ordeal, but since her post has gone viral, authorities have now arrested a man.

“He has been captured,” South Tangerang police chief Imam Setiawan confirmed.

The man has reportedly been charged with rape and theft which are punishable by up to 12 and nine years in jail respectively.
