Child infected with Omicron visited Woolworths, Priceline, Westfield

A child, too young to be vaccinated against Covid-19, is NSW’s latest case of the Omicron coronavirus variant.

NSW Health said the child visited several venues in Chatswood in Sydney including Woolworths and Priceline last Wednesday. The child is the seventh case of the Omicron variant recorded in NSW.

“The child’s parents, who are fully vaccinated, are also Covid-positive and genomic sequencing is underway to confirm that they are also infected with the Omicron variant. They are isolating in the Special Health Accommodation,” the health department said.

“The family arrived on flight QR908 from Doha to Sydney on 23 November 2021. NSW Health is concerned transmission may have occurred on this flight as they had not visited southern Africa.”

Every person who was on flight QR908 has been requested to immediately get a PCR test and isolate while awaiting further health advice.

“NSW Health will contact all passengers and flight crew to advise them of their isolation requirements,” the health department said.

Confirmed case forces shoppers to isolate

It comes after a woman in her 30s and a man in his 40s also tested positive to the new variant — both were on flight QR908 from Doha which arrived in Sydney on November 25.

The Cabramatta man, who spent six months in Nigeria, has triggered a wave of isolation orders after it was revealed he visited a number of venues since returning to Sydney.

NSW Health put out an alert for one venue on Wednesday afternoon — Chemist Warehouse at 18 Orange Grove Road in Liverpool.

Anyone who attended the venue on Monday November 29 between 8:10pm – 8:15pm is considered a casual contact who must immediately get tested and isolate until a negative result is received.

"The reason he was tested is he does have symptoms. But I understand at this point they're mild symptoms," Mr Hazzard said during a press conference on Wednesday.

"He's been out and about. My alert to the community is watch what happens today in terms of advice from Health (NSW).

"If you have been in those same locations [as advised by NSW Health] at the relevant times, please go and get tested," he said.
