Woman allegedly snatches dying man's dog while he has seizure

A woman has been arrested as police searched for the person who snatched a dog from a 7-Eleven while its owner suffered a fatal seizure.

The 59-year-old dog owner had a medical emergency while out walking with his chihuahua named Sampson, in Longmont Colorado, on Tuesday evening, according to a Facebook post from the Longmont Police Department.

While paramedics tended to the man, a woman was seen on CCTV appearing to take the chihuahua and walk away from the convenience store car park, police said.

Sadly, the victim died, according to ABC News in the US.

Police released the security images in their hunt for the “dog-napper” which led to the arrest of Melody Mellon, 30, on Thursday morning (local time).

Mellon was picked up in suspicion of stealing a car, and officers identified her as the suspect who stole Sampson. She was then taken into custody, according to reports.

Mellon received a summons for allegedly stealing the dog, in addition to other theft charges, according to the ABC.

Longmont Police Department confirmed Sampson had since been reunited with his family after the suspect surrendered the pup.
