NSW Covid cases rise again, with 45 cases linked to pub event
A Covid outbreak at a Sydney pub has led to 45 new cases as NSW's uptick in infections continued on Thursday.
The latest outbreak is centred around the Oxford Tavern pub in the inner-west suburb of Petersham.
Health authorities say the super-spreader event took place on November 30 when the venue hosted a trivia night.
"Anyone who was there that night is considered a close contact and must get tested immediately and self-isolate," Sydney Local Health District said.
The pub has announced it will be closed until December 11. It is unclear if the outbreak is a result of the Omicron variant, with further information to be released on Thursday.
Daily Covid cases rise again on Thursday
On Wednesday, daily cases jumped by more than 100 infections, moving above 400 for the first time since mid-October.
On Thursday, daily cases rose for the third consecutive day, with the state recording 420 new known infections – the highest total since October 13.
Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant warned on Wednesday the number of Omicron cases would continue to grow across the state, with fears Christmas parties could fuel infection.
Of concern for NSW Health is the emergence of two suspected Omicron cases from a Sydney Harbour boat party where more than 150 guests have been told to isolate pending Covid testing.
Further Omicron cases are also expected to arise from a cluster centred around two western Sydney schools and a climbing gym.
