Powerball draw 1333: One winner scores $80m jackpot before Christmas

One lucky Australian has become the nation's third-biggest lottery winner ever, pocketing an eye-watering $80 million in Powerball's draw on Thursday night.

The jackpot, in which one in four Aussies are estimated to have bought a ticket, will land in the winner's bank account on December 17, resulting in what is bound to be a very merry Christmas.

The winning numbers for draw number 1333 are 4, 5, 19, 26, 27, 30 and 33 and the all-important Powerball number is 8.

The winning ticket was sold in Western Australia.

“After scoring the entire $80 million jackpot, the Western Australia player has officially secured their name in the Australian lottery books and shares the title of the nation’s third-biggest individual lottery winner,” The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said.

“You may not have been the one that won division one tonight, but there was a total of 2.5 million prizes worth more than $45.14 million won in divisions two to nine in tonight’s draw," he said, encouraging people to check their tickets for any other prize.

The last major jackpot to be won was on October 21, when a couple from South Melbourne won $60 million.

"I found out last night while I was watching TV with my wife. We knew straight after the draw that we had won. We were screaming and crying," the winning man said.

Australia’s biggest lottery winners

Only two people have won more than $80 million from an Australian lottery game.

They include a Sydney mum who won a $107 million Powerball prize in 2019 and a Chatswood dad who won $96 million in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot the same year.
