Aussie renters divided over 'ridiculous' new rule for tenants
People are divided over a sign which was placed in the shared laundry of a NSW apartment building, which told renters when they can and can't do their laundry.
Taking to a private Facebook group for Australian renters, one woman shared a picture of a sign which was hung in the laundry of her apartment building.
She explained she was curious to see what others thought, adding it was a new sign and it sits near one of the two washers in the building.
The sign states there is to be no "late night washings and drying" and tenants are prohibited from doing so between 10pm and 9am.
"Please operate all machines (washing machine and dryer) between the hours of 9AM, to 10PM, 7 days a week," the sign says.
The sign also states a timer operating the power on the machines will turn the power off at a selected time, so tenants should "be warned".
It also warns people might lose their money in the machines if the power cuts out after 10pm or before 9am and no refunds would be given.
"There is ample time to wash clothing due to the current climate," the sign says.
"Tenants reside near this area, please respect early/late night noise."
Sign divides renters
The woman who shared the picture said she didn't have a problem with the sign, though she thought the start time should be a few hours earlier.
The sign actually proved to be very divisive, with some having no problem with it, while others thought it was too far.
"If there are other people [living] around [the laundry], then I think that is perfectly fine," one person said in the comments.
"It's a communal area, they have given plenty of time to do the washing during the days, every day."
Someone else also agreed the rule was fair given people who lived near the laundry were likely bothered by the noise.
One person said they used to live in a unit block with communal laundry and they said the 10pm rule was "generous", given the noise they make is "horrendous".
However, quite a few people pushed back against it, considering some people might only be able to do laundry late at night due to work.

"I think it's ridiculous," one person said.
"Those commercial machines don't make much noise, I can't imagine it being an issue."
They said due to their work, the only time they can do laundry is after 12am.
Someone else called the 9am start time to be "problematic" and said if someone needed to dry off their uniform for work they might not be able to.
