Russian state TV shows nuclear bombs 'sinking' the UK in grim threat

A Russian TV host has threatened the UK with nuclear bombs twice on a prime time TV show – once by air and once by sea – showing a simulation of the country being erased from the world map.

“Why threaten horizonless Russia with nuclear weapons when you sit on a small island?” one of Russia's top propagandists Dmitry Kiselyov said on state TV in a segment called 'The Sinkable Island'.

Russian state TV —which is controlled by President Vladimir Putin — has been threatening European countries for their support of Ukraine in the invasion.

“[Their] island is so small that one Sarmat missile is enough to drown it once and for all," Mr Kiselyov said.

"[It] is capable of destroying an area the size of Texas or England. A single launch, Boris, and there is no England anymore.

"Everything's been calculated already".

Mr Kiselyov claimed the Poseidon underwater drone “has capacity for a warhead of up to 100 megatons”, which is several thousand times the strength of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

“The explosion of this thermonuclear torpedo by Britain’s coastline will cause a gigantic tsunami wave up to 500 metres high," The Guardian reported Mr Kiselyov saying.

"Such a barrage alone also carries extreme doses of radiation," he continued. "Having passed over the British Isles, it will turn what might be left of them into a radioactive desert.”

Last week, British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said it was a “strategic imperative” for the Western allies that Ukraine win the war, adding the West must "double down" in their support for Ukraine.

“We will keep going further and faster to push Russia out of the whole of Ukraine,” Ms Truss said on Wednesday, urging Western countries not to be "complacent".

"The war in Ukraine is our war – it is everyone's war… because Ukraine's victory is a strategic imperative for all of us.

"We cannot be complacent – the fate of Ukraine remains in the balance. And let's be clear – if Putin succeeds there will be untold further misery across Europe and terrible consequences across the globe."
