'Super scary': Officers' stunning discovery at scene of car crash

Police have made an extraordinary find while attending the scene of a car crash.

Officers were called to Grand Parkway in Houston, Texas, on Thursday (local time) after a traffic accident which involved the driver suffering minor injuries when his airbags inflated.

Anthony Jackson, the driver of the car, told The Midland Reporter-Telegram he had “no chance to react” to what was walking on the road in front of him.

Mr Jackson accidentally slammed into a roughly three metre-long alligator and dragged the animal along the road before pulling over.

Police said “sadly” the alligator died in the incident.

On Facebook, people expressed shock at the unusual traffic accident after police shared images of the scene on social media.

"Adding to the list of things not commonly seen while on patrol in Montgomery County ... A motor vehicle crash involving a 10-foot alligator!" police wrote.

“That’s insane,” one woman commented.

Others marvelled at the alligator's “monstrous” size.

“I can imagine that must have been super scary for the driver,” another woman wrote.

“At dark on a dark road, those guys blend in easily. Happy the driver is okay. Hitting a hog can roll a car so I imagine a gator is just as scary.”
