Teen’s fiery death on first day of dream job

A teen who dreamed of becoming a nurse screamed for help as she was burned to death in a horrific road accident.

In a cruel twist of fate, her car exploded in a ball of flames after she crashed while driving to her first day of a new job.

Elisa Girolametto, 19, could reportedly be heard screaming for help in the huge blaze that engulfed her Fiat Punto after she lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a perimeter wall.

The incident took place on a road in the Italian commune of Altivole in the early morning of May 4, while Elisa was driving to work for her first day as a nursing intern.

The internship was part of the healthcare biotechnology course she was pursuing at the Feltre campus of the University of Padua in northern Italy.

Following the collision, three residents came to the young woman's aid. However, despite her screams for help, the huge flames prevented them from removing her from the car.

The police have suggested she may have lost control of the vehicle after falling asleep suddenly, or becoming distracted, or suffering a sudden illness.

Elisa was a committee member of the Italian Red Cross in the commune of Bassano del Grappa, where she had been a student.

The committee released a statement mourning the young woman's death, saying "Elisa was very active with young volunteers and in the health services".

She leaves behind two parents, two younger sisters and a boyfriend. At the time of reporting, the date for the funeral had not yet been set.

Elisa's charred car will be examined as part of an investigation.
