Terrifying discovery under recycling bin in garden
A snake catcher has been left in shock at the size of a carpet python found hiding under a garbage bin at a home on the Sunshine Cost.
When Stuart “Stu” McKenzie got the call out to remove a snake from a backyard in Nambour he bought a trusty pillowcase, not realising just how big the unwanted visitor would be.
“That is one of the biggest pythons I have seen in a long time,” a surprised Stu said.
In a video shared on the Sunshine Coast Snakecatchers Facebook page, Stu can be seen lifting a wheelie bin to reveal a three metre long snake which he estimates weighs more than 10kgs.
“I brought the old pillowcase thinking I’d be able to get him in there but that’s a negative, it’s definitely not going to be big enough,” Stu says as he decides to tackle the reptile with his hands instead.
After removing the python from the backyard, Stu and his team of snake catchers take the python out to the bush to release him back into the wild.
“He was taken a good distance away to live a longer life and hopefully not scare anymore old ladies!” Stu wrote on Facebook.
“It’s not very often as snake catchers that we get genuinely surprised but when I lifted the bin and this big unit was under there...” Stu says as he handles the snake.
“I’m sweating, the sheer weight of this thing,” he adds as he struggles to release the snake, which happily slithers into shrubs.
The snake catcher said he was “stoked” to find such a large python and said the snakes “just keep getting bigger”.
“It is pretty crazy how this big snake somehow fit under the small wheelie bin,” he wrote.
Carpet pythons are not venomous and usually have quite a docile nature.
