Urgent Covid alert for 22,500 Sydney residents in 15 suburbs
More than 22,000 Sydneysiders are on high alert after traces of Covid-19 were found in sewage treatment plants.
Residents living in 15 suburbs have been told to watch out for symptoms and get tested if they develop after the fragments of the virus were found on Sunday at the Brooklyn and Lough Park catchments, NSW Health announced on Tuesday evening.
The Brooklyn treatment plant serves 1000 people living in Dangar Island, Cowan, Brooklyn, Mooney Mooney and Cheerio Point.
The Lough Park catchment serves 21,500 people from Clovelly, Waverley, Randwick, Centennial Park, Queens Park, Bondi, Bondi Junction, Bellevue Hill, Double Bay and Woollahra.
“NSW Health is asking everyone in these areas to be especially vigilant in monitoring for symptoms, and if they appear get tested and isolate immediately until a negative result is received,” the press release reads.
“Anyone with even the mildest of cold-like symptoms is urged to immediately come forward for testing and isolate until a negative result is received.”
NSW recorded 10 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday - including an eastern suburbs child - bringing the number of cases linked to the Bondi cluster to 21.

The jump in infections prompted state premier Gladys Berejiklian to make masks compulsory until midnight on June 30 on public transport and in most indoor settings for people in Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Illawarra and Shellharbour.
All of the new cases except for two were already in isolation when tested and all of the cases but one, a student at St Charles Catholic Primary School in Waverley, were linked to existing cases.
Sydney Catholic Schools confirmed the Year 3 student had tested positive for the virus and the school had closed for the final three days of term two while it's cleaned.
Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said it wasn't yet known how the child contracted the virus and health officials were working to develop a plan for the 365 children to be tested.
New suburb subjected to infection
Several new Covid exposure sites have also been revealed by NSW Health, with the suburb of Mascot appearing for the first time during the current outbreak.
Anyone who attended the following venues at the times listed is a close contact and must immediately call NSW Health, get tested and isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result:
Anyone who dined outside at Wallabies Thai Restaurant in Mascot from 11:30pm to 12pm on June 19
Chanel fragrance and beauty on level 4 at Westfield Bondi from 12pm to 12:25pm on June 18
Anyone on Level 2 at ANZ Martin Place in Sydney CBD from 11:45am to 3:15pm on June 17
Anyone who attended the following venues at the times listed is a casual contact and must immediately get tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received:
Anyone who dined inside at Wallabies Thai Restaurant in Mascot from 11:30pm to 12pm on June 19
Starbucks on level 2 at Westfield Bondi from 11am to 12pm on June 18
Anyone on the ground floor and level 1 at ANZ Martin Place in Sydney CBD from 11:45am to 3:15pm on June 17
Anyone who attended the Mascot Central Shopping Precinct on Etherden Walk anytime from June 18 to June 22 has been told to monitor for symptoms and to isolate and get tested if they appear.
NSW Health has also ramped up its advice around the original infection site at Westfield Bondi Junction and is asking anyone who was there - including the car park - at any time between June 12 and 18 to get tested.
