Urgent recall for butter sold at Woolworths, Coles, Aldi

Several butter products sold at major supermarkets across Australia are being recalled due to potential microbial contamination.

Saputo Dairy Australia Pty Ltd (SDA) has recalled eight butters and spreadable butter blend products due to the contamination concerns, according to a notice from Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

The recall is specific to six Devondale butters and two Woolworths-brand butters.

The recalled Devondale butters include:

  • Devondale Salted Butter 250g, Best Before Dates — 18 May, 2022; 04 June, 2022

  • Devondale Salted Butter 500g, Best Before Dates — 30 April, 2022; 01 May, 2022; 24 June, 2022

  • Devondale Salted Butter 3 x 500g, Best Before Date — 01 May, 2022

  • Devondale Unsalted Butter 500g, Best Before Date — 30 April, 2022

  • Devondale Dairy Soft Original 500g, Best Before Dates — 06 January, 2022; 06 April, 2022; 11 May, 2022; 12 May, 2022; 26 May, 2022

  • Devondale Dairy Soft Salt Reduced 500g, Best Before Date — 10 May, 2022

The recalled Woolworths-brand butters include:

  • Woolworths Butter Salted 250g, Best Before Dates — 16 October, 2021; 21 April, 2022; 12 May, 2022, 13 May, 2022

  • Woolworths Butter Unsalted 250g, Best Before Dates — 16 October, 2021; 11 May, 2022; 12 May, 2022

"The recalled products have been available for sale nationally in various outlets including Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, independent supermarkets and Costco," the recall notice said.

Food Standards Australia said consumers should not eat these products as microbial contamination can cause illness if consumed.

"Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice," the recall notice said.

"Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund."
