Urgent recall issued for Aldi product
A product recall has been issued for a faulty tool set sold at Aldi supermarkets nationwide.
The recall concerns the Workzone Telescopic Magnetic Pick-up Tool with LED two-piece pack, sold between November 26 and April 19.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), who handle product safety recalls, issued the recall because of the tool’s LED light.
The compartment containing the button battery for the light isn’t secured properly, meaning the batteries could be accessible and swallowed by young children.
“The product does not comply with the mandatory safety standard for products containing button/coin batteries,” reads the ACCC’s recall notice.
“There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button batteries and ingest them.”
Anyone who has purchased the tool, with product code 815174, should store it out of reach of children, and return it to an Aldi supermarket for a full refund.
To date, two children have died in Australia from swallowing button batteries.
Kidsafe.com.au estimates 20 children per week present to Australian hospital emergency departments after ingesting the devices.
