Victoria Covid cluster grows after six days without local cases
Victoria has recorded two new locally acquired coronavirus cases in the previous 24 hours, it was revealed on Friday.
The Department of Health confirmed both cases were close contacts of previously identified cases.
The state had enjoyed six days without any local cases after a hotel quarantine leak sparked a five-day lockdown.
The lockdown ended without extension on February 18.
The Holiday Inn cluster now stands at 24 cases.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has previously warned to expect further cases linked to the cluster.
Victoria is expected to ease restrictions despite the new cases.
Restrictions expected to ease
Premier Daniel Andrews on Thursday hinted the eased set of rules are expected to be similar to those in force over Christmas and will likely come into effect at 11.59pm on Friday.
Healthcare staff administered 808 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to frontline workers and hotel quarantine staff on Wednesday, bringing the number of shots administered in the state so far to 2063.
