Victoria's new Covid cases soar past 800 as outbreak rages on
Victoria's new Covid cases are continuing to soar with 847 infections recorded in the past 24 hours.
The state also announced another person has died from the virus. There are now 7,611 total active cases.
In the past 24 hours, 37,220 vaccines were administered and 59,342 test results were received.
On Friday, the state recorded 733 new locally-acquired Covid cases and one person who had the virus died.
Roadmap to freedom delayed
Melburnians will have to wait a little longer to hit the golf course or tennis court, with Victoria set to miss its first Covid-19 roadmap target this weekend.
The state is 3.7 per cent shy of reaching 80 per cent first dose vaccination coverage for Victorians aged over 16.
With vaccination rates typically lower over the weekend, Health Minister Martin Foley conceded the state was likely to hit 80 per cent first dose mark mid to late next week instead of Sunday.

The delay will prevent Melburnians from being granted additional freedoms, including the resumption of contactless sport for up to five fully vaccinated adults and the expansion of the city's travel limit from 10km to 15km.
It comes as police and riot squad members descended on Northcote on Friday afternoon, dispersing a crowd of up to 80 protesters and making 31 arrests on the fifth day of the recurring protests.
