Woman 'held captive by ex' leaves notes begging for help in bathrooms

A woman who claims she was held captive by her ex-boyfriend for months has been rescued after leaving notes in two public bathrooms, police say.

Her first letter crying for help was found stuck to a mirror in a Walmart women’s toilet in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, local publication WPXI reported.

Officers said in a criminal report that the author said she had been sexually assaulted and held against her will and that whoever found the note should call police.

Walmart employees handed it over to police, who then went to the address written on the note — the home of 38-year-old Corey Brewer.

No one answered the door but officers did hear furniture being moved in front of the door, the complaint said, WPXI reports.

When police called Brewer, he allegedly refused to let the woman talk to them without him listening in on speaker phone, ABC News reports.

Brewer reportedly told police the pair were on holiday in New York and the woman said the 38-year-old was her boyfriend.

Two days later, a second note from the woman pleading for help was found at a bathroom in Fallingwater Museum.

Surveillance footage showed the woman and Brewer at the museum around the same time, police said.

The woman claimed in the note that she had been held hostage since May 1 and that “she heard the police knocking at the residence, that the abuse hasn’t stopped, and please don’t give up,” ABC News reports.

Officers returned to Brewer’s home with a SWAT team and arrested him.

The woman had obvious signs of assault, the police complaint said.

She claims Brewer threatened to kill her and her children if she had tried to leave.

Brewer also allegedly took nude images of her and punched and strangled her numerous times.

Police said Brewer and the woman had dated previously and she had taken out a protection order against him in August 2020.

Brewer has been charged with sexual assault, strangulation and unlawful restraint.
