Witnesses told police a man driving a silver Mitsubishi SUV was involved in a minor car accident in the area.

The man driving the SUV tried to flee following the accident, however, the 23-year-old woman witnessed the crash and was taking photos of his car.

The suspect then allegedly drove his SUV directly at the victim. She tried to run onto the lawn to avoid the path of the car, however the man drove on to the grass and the woman could be seen sprawled on the ground.

He then proceeded to drive over her again, backing up and running her over with his car a second time before fleeing the area in his vehicle.

Later that morning, police located the Mitsubishi with the driver in the front seat. The car was parked in the city.

Police charged the suspect and identified him as 56-year-old Vincent Jean. The Elizabeth local was hit with several charges including first-degree attempted murder.

"These criminal charges are mere accusations. Each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

He remains in jail ahead of his court appearance.
