Woman finds hilarious mistake after licence renewal

A woman from Tennessee got quite the shock when she received her new licence in the mail and instead of a photo of herself on the ID, there was a photo of an empty chair.

Jane Dodd renewed her licence online last week and when it arrived in the post a few days later, she expected to see the same photo she had used previously. Instead, she had been replaced with a piece of furniture.

Ms Dodd called her local DMV to report the issue, telling local news station WKRN she found it hard to get somebody to believe her.

“The lady at the DMV did not really believe me when I was like ‘hey, I need my licence fixed’, then she looked it up in the system and goes, ‘oh, I need my manager for this’,” Ms Dodd recalled.

After posting the botched ID on Facebook on August 6, Ms Dodd was inundated with jokes from people who thought the bungle was hilarious. The post has since been shared over 19,000 times.

“Wait! You have super powers - Invisibility!” one person responded to the post.

“What the heck? I’m not sure if I should laugh or what!?” another commented.

“Are you a vampire?” someone joked.

But it was apparently Ms Dodd’s colleagues having the most fun with her new ID.

“My boss thinks it’s funnier than anyone. I was at work Friday and he pointed to a chair outside of his office door and was like, ‘I thought this was you, I waved at it this morning’ and I was like, ‘thanks’,” Ms Dodd told WKRN.

A new licence with a correct photo of Ms Dodd arrived on Monday (local time) while the DMV later explained to News 2 how the mishap occurred.

“When the customer visited the Driver Services Centre a few years ago, during the transaction, an examiner made an error by capturing and saving the wrong photo (of an empty chair) to the customer’s profile.

“When the customer recently renewed her driver licence online, she received an image of a chair because that was the last picture taken on file,” Wes Moster from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said.

The department also said this is the first time this has happened.

Ms Dodd said the situation has made her smile and she will be keeping the original ID “just for a laugh.”
