Woman's pants ripped off in wild buffalo attack in Custer State Park, South Dakota

A woman has had her pants ripped off by a bison in a vicious attack that left her unconscious on the side of a road.

The 54-year-old woman from the US state of Iowa was travelling through Custer State Park in South Dakota as a passenger on a motorcycle when they came across a herd of buffalo crossing the road.

A news update shared by the Custer County Sheriff said the woman was attempting to approach a buffalo calf when an adult bison charged at her.

Her belt and pants became trapped on the animal’s horn, leaving her defenceless as the animal dragged her across the road.

Video from an eyewitness shows the woman being swung in a full circle by the beast before her pants slide off and the bison runs away.

“Oh my God, it got her,” the woman filming can be heard saying.

“And she doesn’t have any pants,” a man says.

“She has no pants on?” the woman asks.

“Not anymore, it’s around his horn,” he replies.

Ultimately, it was her pants falling off that saved her life – freeing her from the buffalo’s attack.

As the animal runs off to join the herd, bystanders rush to the woman’s side, who is now slumped unconscious in a ditch.

One man can been seen taking off his t-shirt to place over her legs.

The woman was taken to hospital by helicopter but miraculously avoided serious injury.

In the days before the attack, the sheriff posted on Facebook reminding people “to not pet the fluffy cows” - aka buffalo.

“Remember this is their park and we are the guests….please give them a break and keep your distance,” the post read.
