Woman's procedure leads to horrifying reaction: 'Laughing so hard'

A Thai woman was left with a shocking trout pout after a tattoo blushing treatment caused her lips to swell uncontrollably.

Atima Phetjoo, 24, had the procedure while she was taking her grandmother to get an eyebrow darkening tattoo at the shop in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in southern Thailand in December.

To pass the time, Atima's grandmother convinced her to have a cheap tattoo lip blushing - a beauty treatment she had been planning to do for a while - which makes the lip appear red.

She readily agreed as there were no other customers in the store at the time and paid 1,000 Baht ($42).

The female technician proceeded with the beauty treatment and was already tattooing Atima's lips when she noticed a strange expression cross her face.

"I barely felt the needle the first time. But during the second round, the staff told me my lips might swell a little bit, and that it was a good sign since bigger lips were easier to tattoo," Atima recalled.

"I went to the toilet after the procedure, and when I saw my face, I couldn't stop laughing. I looked like I had just come from a car crash and had dragged my lips against the road."

A shocked Atima added that her lips ballooned even more after 20 minutes, but she decided to visit a noodle shop anyway out of hunger.

Atima recorded video of herself spooning soup and noodles into her inflamed mouth, which looked like it had been ravaged by a swarm of bees.

She said: "The whole shop was looking at me while grandmother was laughing so hard."

Atima's lips eventually shrunk back to normal - and were reportedly several shades pinker - a few days after the alarming incident.

Lip blushing is a type of tattooing procedure in which pigments are injected into the client's lips using small needles to modify their colour and shape. Side effects such as swelling, pain, and redness are common after undergoing lip blushing.
