Wife's brutal sledge on local footy legend's banner
Banners are one of the best things about grassroots footy, and the McLaren Football Club provided a classic of the genre to celebrate the 300th game of a club legend which has since gone viral.
With local competition given the green light in South Australia under the coronavirus prevention guidelines, the Great Southern Football League reserves were ready to go for club legend Mark Curtis’ 300 games.

A feat to be celebrated at any level of football, the 300-gamer found himself upstaged by the banner, which his wife Sarah played a heavy role in designing.
A cheeky congratulatory sledge greeted Curtis, which read ‘Congrats Curto - 300 games, 30 reports, 3 flags, 0 pre-seasons’.
While it is the dream of many a reserves player to win three flags without a single pre-season, Curtis later told NewsCorp he would have achieved the 300-game milestone years ago had he not been reported so many times.
“They had to mention something about me getting reported because I would have had this milestone many years ago if not for that,” he said.
“I’ve sort of just walked out of the club, grabbed my son and had a read of it — and I’ve just cracked up laughing.
“I knew there would be a banner, that’s a tradition the club has always had. I didn’t know what it was going to say. That was gold.”
It was a milestone worth the wait to celebrate for Curtis and the McLaren footy club, who celebrated a thumping 22.11.143 to 1.0.6 win over rivals Victor Harbour.
Curtis booted 10 goals for the match - fulfilling the ultimate fantasy for ressies battlers across the country.
Adelaide Crows’ woes compounded by injuries
Adelaide captain Rory Sloane will miss at least the next month of AFL matches because of a broken thumb.
Sloane will have surgery on a fracture at the base of his left thumb after being injured during the winless Crows' latest loss at the weekend.
Sloane will consult a specialist before having surgery in coming days, Adelaide's head of medicine Steve Saunders says.
The injury is the latest blow for the Crows, who are anchored at the bottom of the AFL ladder with six consecutive losses.
Former skipper Taylor Walker (shoulder) and key forward Darcy Fogarty (shoulder) are unlikely to return for Adelaide's next fixture, a home game against St Kilda next Monday night.
Winger Rory Atkins (shoulder) is also expected to miss at least another week, utlity Wayne Milera (broken foot) is at least a month away from resuming while midfielder Jordan Gallucci has been ruled out for the season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon.
