Notorious dictator's teenage son handed win in boxing farce

An amateur boxing match featuring the teenage son of a feared dictator has ended in farce, as the referee called the bout his favour despite his opponent clearly having the upper hand.

The influence of Ramzan Kadyrov, the dictator head of the Chechen Republic, was clearly felt as a bout featuring his 14-year-old son Adam was subject to bizarrely favourable officiating.

The action kicked off in the second round, when both fighters began to trade blows - but it was Adam's opponent who noticeably had the upper hand.

The referee intervened, sending Adam to his corner and giving his opponent what appeared to be an otherwise totally unnecessary standing eight count.

Seconds later, the fight was won when the opposing camp threw in the towel, with the young Kadyrov's hand raised by the referee in victory.

It's not the first time the MMA and boxing mad dictator has wielded his influence on the sport, with Australian boxer Lucas Browne recently describing a run-in of his own with the infamous leader.

Browne, who is preparing to fight former NRL star Paul Gallen on Wednesday night, told Sporting News about the moment he met Kadyrov prior to a fight in the Chechen Republic.

“He’s basically a big child – that’s how I’d describe him,” Browne said.

“Anything he did, everyone was like ‘yeah, that’s the greatest thing we’ve ever seen’.

“So, he did all his stuff, and we took a photo, and he basically just went ‘bang’ and punched me in the stomach as hard as he could. I wasn’t ready for it.

“It was a hard punch … I was completely shocked – I didn’t know what to do.

“I asked my minder – my armed guard – if I had done anything, what would’ve happened? He goes, ‘we’d shoot you’.”

The final press conference between former NRL star Paul Gallen and former boxer Lucas Browne turned ugly after barbs were thrown around just two days before they square-off.

There hasn't been much love between the pair in the lead-up to the six-round fight on Wednesday, but Browne has appeared to have enough of Gallen after he ripped into the former Origin forward.

After Gallen's repeated barbs at Browne's legitimacy as a heavyweight champion of boxing, 'Dig Daddy' finally lost it.

"I’ve appreciated all of the childish bulls**t that has come out of his mouth,” Browne said on Monday.

“I realise it’s all for the build-up. I’ve done the videos of him singing and dancing and stuff, but it’s go time now.

“There’s no more bulls**t, there’s no more anything else. I’m going to punch him in the face until he goes down.

“I just think he’s a f**kwit. He’s an absolute dead-set donkey. Look at the head on him. He’s just got a head that you want to punch."

Browne was confident and said he would be willing for a second fight if Gallen was prepared after their bout on Wednesday.
